Abstract:

The investigations performed at the Institute of Atmospheric Optics to design a high—sensitivity laser spectrometers as well as the results obtained with them are reviewed in this paper. The laser spectrometers based on spectrophotometric, opto—acoustic, and intracavity methods allow weak absorption spectra within range from 800 to 16000 cm—1 to be studied successfully with 10—2 to 10—4 cm—1 resolution. Thousands of new absorption lines and tens of earlier unknown vibrational—rotational bands of atmospheric and polluting gases were detected using the spectrometers. The analysis of the spectra allowed us to determine the energy structure and spectroscopic constants of high vibrational states of molecules as well as the coefficients of the shifts caused by buffer gases pressure.
