A strict approach to solution of the Maxwell equations for monochromatic fields radiated to homogeneous nonabsorbing uniaxial media is considered. Two conditions are determined, to which the field source distribution functions should satisfy and which provide for origination of only ordinary or only extraordinary waves. If none of the conditions is satisfied, then, as is shown in the work, the field source distribution function can be uniquely represented by a sum of two items, each of which satisfies one of the above conditions. Thus, one of the items is responsible for radiation of an ordinary wave, and another one, of an extraordinary wave.
